Boredom to "Shearer" Madness

Here's a couple funny pics of our good man Charles Shearer smokin' his McQueen churchwarden and another smoking a Neerup while playing his Ukulele. At the next pipe gathering, he's promised to give us a Ukulele performance. He's living out at a really rural location called Jinbo-Myeon, about four hours Southeast from Seoul. He started playing the Ukulele in Korea, perhaps out of "shear" boredom and has also perfected his pipe smoking skills there. We're waiting until we get a hold of his accordion-playing pics. Guess there isn't much out there in Jinbo other than large expanses of hot-pepper fields. Wow!

Pipe Tabac Review - McClelland Blue Mountain

Of having our KPAS inaugural meet and also in observance of International Pipe Smoking Day, we had to smoke and review at least one pipe tobacco during our fine session.

2012 International Pipe Smoking Day Event

A while ago, Harvey (http://www.youtube.com/user/hjrosasq) and I talked about starting a pipe club. Along the way, however, we heard about a similar effort in Seoul, so we combined our resources, and yesterday was our first meeting.

On International Pipe Smoking Day here, so our first meeting was in honour of that, or rather a day early as Monday would have produced a much smaller turn-out. It was attended by a good dozen people.  The 'International' of the day's name was indeed evoked: it was attended by people from the US (easily the majority), Korea, Taiwan and Colombia.  While most were from Seoul, Harvey and I needed an hour train to reach there (not counting subways and a taxi) and another took a four+ hour bus.  The tobacco brought by the various members included 3 Oaks Syrian, Blue Mountain, Frog Morton on the Bayou, Best of Show and Billy Bud among others.  At one point, we all put Blue Mountain into our pipes and collectively reviewed it, with comments compiled HERE.  We're aiming for monthly get-togethers and hope to see you at the next one, or the one after that.  Guaranteed good smoking, good people and good times.

Brigham Pipes (Canada) in Korea!

 

The Brigham System The Brigham system was developed in response to a common complaint of pipe smokers - tongue bite. Eliminating this burning sensation created by the tars and acids of the burning tobacco (especially in wet and aromatic blends) became a consuming passion of ours. We found the perfect taste-neutral and effective material in natural, untreated Rock Maple. Each filter is made by hollowing out the inside diameter of a 3.5” Rock Maple dowel and pressure-fitting a special metal cap to its end which helps the filter fit snugly inside the pipe while making removal simple. The manufacturing process of the filter uses no chemicals or adhesives to guarantee a taste-neutral system. By design, the Brigham system extends into the stem, providing an extra inch of wood through which the smoke passes. Consider that in most other pipes, smoke spends half of its time passing along a plastic or rubber channel which can add negative flavour to the smoke while providing no benefit of its own. This combination of reduced exposure to plastic and rubber, drastic reduction in tongue bite, elimination of gurgle and flow-back as well as the ease of use has made Brigham Canada’s pipe of choice for generations.
